In the partial oxidation of bitumen oil emulsions using O2 or air, the novelty is that the emulsions are separated by heating and separating into bitumen oil and emulsion water, and then evaporating off the emulsion water, which is used as a moderator for the partial oxidn.. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process can be used to produce synthesis gas or H2, and as an intermediate step for the prodn. of a number of chemical products, e.g. MeOH, NH3, oxo-products, formic acid and acetic acid. relatively high amts. of emulsion water do not enter the reaction chamber and thus the specific amts. of bitumen oil and O2 are reduced.
