The modified pseudoceramides have a structure given by (I) or (II) and an approximate summary is that R1, R4, R5 are aliphatic hydrocarbon, A is H or an aliphatic group terminated by OR3 and at least one R2 or R3 is phosphate or sulphate. The presence of phosphate or sulphate facilitates skin absorption, after which the phosphate or sulphate is removed by enzymes naturally present in vivo.
