Prodn. of factor VIII prepns. is effected by treating a factor VIII soln. with stabilisers, opt. pasteurising it, contacting it with a carbohydrate-based anion exchanger, washing the exchanger, and eluting factor VIII with a chaotropic soln. of CaCl2. Also claimed is a pasteurised high-purity factor VIII prepn. which is practically free of immunoglobulins, isoagglutinins, fibronectin and clottable fibrinogen, has a specific clottinq activity of ca. 100 U/mg protein and has a ratio of clotting activity to factor VIII related antigen activity of more than 1.
