The hospital bed lying surface consists of a backrest, centre, thigh, and leg parts arranged on a tiltable, height-adjustable mattress frame which can be locked at desired height and/or angle. Adjacent parts of the lying surface can pivot lockably round parallel axes. The entire lying surface frame (5) adjusts longitudinally on the mattress frame (4) so that, when the backrest (6) is swung up (arrow A) the frame moves towards the head, and when the backrest swings down (B), the frame slides towards the foot.
