P-XYLENE RESISTANT BACTERIUM OF THE GENUS CORYNEBACTERIUM AND REACTION METHOD USING THE SAME BACTERIUM

NEW MATERIAL:A bacterium of the genus Corynebacterium having resistance to P-xylene. EXAMPLE:Corynebacterium espi CX1 (FERM P-11483). USE:The above-mentioned bacterium is brought into contact with a reactive organic compound in the presence of an organic solvent to efficiently provide an useful substance. The above-mentioned method can use an aromatic solvent exhibiting good solubility to various kinds of compounds and maintain biological activity for a long period. PREPARATION:A bacterium of the genus Corynebacterium is separated from soil in Wako city, Saitama prefecture by screening of bacterium having casein decomposing ability. Then the bacterium is purely reared and then cultured in a P-xylene-containing medium to separate a bacterium having proliferation ability.
