<p>This invention concerns a multi-purpose item of furniture which can serve as a desk, a reception counter, shop counter, etc... and which is formed by a series of columns and working and storage shelves intended to be mounted between these columns, characterised in that all of the columns (1) are formed by panels (2) having lateral edges (7) folded over their length and a means of connecting these panels to each other by their lateral edges (7), the said panels (2) being provided with perforations (3) distributed over their surface and arranged to receive pins (11) for supporting the storage shelves (4).
