A process comprising contacting a solvent, magnesium hydroxide, and a halogenated hydrocarbon at a pressure sufficient to keep the solvent and the halogenated hydrocarbon under liquid conditions, and a temperature greater than 150 DEG C. under conditions suitable to dehydrohalogenate the halogenated hydrocarbon, and recovering the dehydrohalogenated product.
