PURPOSE:To improve the performance and the reliability of a fuel cell by composing an electrode catalyst layer by using different materials to a binder and a water carrier member respectively. CONSTITUTION:An electrode catalyst layer 5 is composed by combining a catalyst 13 in which a precious metal 9 is carried in a catalyst support being a carbon black power 7, and a carbon fluoride 11, with a fluorinated hydrocarbon resin 8. In such a gas diffusion electrodes of a fuel cell, a catalyst carrying platinum and a carbon fluoride powder are mixed to a carbon black powder. A fibrilated polytetrafluoroethylene powder to be the fluorinated hydrocarbon resin is added to this mixture, and stirred and mixed. In this mixing process, the powder is made into a fiber form. A solvent is added to this mixture to produce a dispersion solution of the catalyst, the carbon fluoride, and the fluorinated hydrocarbon resin, and solidified and separated by a centrifugal separator. The resultant slurry is contracted and molded, and then rolled to pressure-attach on a porous electrode basic material 1. And it is baked after drying to obtain an electrode for fuel cell. |
