1284932 Anthraquinone dyestuffs IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 20 May 1970 [17 June 1969] 30618/69 Heading C4P The invention comprises disperse dyestuffs free from acidic water-solubilizing groups of the general formula wherein Z is H or an optionally substituted aliphatic (includes cycloaliphatic) or aryl radical and also mixtures of the above dyestuffs with dyestuffs of the formulµ wherein Z is as above. The dyestuffs of Formula I above are prepared by reacting 1,8-dihydroxy- 4 - amino - 5 - nitroanthraquinone with an amine Z-NH 2 in the presence of boric acid or its anhydride or a derivative of the formula (VO) 3 B where V is alkyl or aryl. The reaction preferably takes place in an organic solvent e.g. a phenolic compound and the product is a dyestuff of Formula I above or a mixture of a dye of Formula I with dyestuffs of Formulµ II and III. The dyestuffs give blue and green shades on polyesters and cellulose acetate.
