PURPOSE:To reduce the particle growth of lithium aluminate to compose an electrolyte plate and to suppress a deterioration of a cell by operating making the partial pressure of the carbon dioxide in the gas fed to the cathode side of a fused carbonate type fuel cell in a specific scope. CONSTITUTION:When the partial pressure of the carbon dioxide in the gas fed to the cathode side of a fused carbonate type fuel cell. is less than 0.1kg/cm<2>, the growing speed of the lithium aluminate particles is made higher too much, and when it exceeds 0.4 kg/cm<2>, the solution of the cathode is made larger too much to generate a trouble practically, and the fuel cell is operated in the scope of the partial pressure 0.1 to 0.4kg/cm<2>. The solubility of a nickel oxide to the electrolyte can be controlled less than about 5 ppm.wt., and the specific surface area of the lithium aluminate particles can be maintained at the value 8m<2>/g or higher even though some 3000 hours pass. This scope of partial pressure is favorable to apply even in the time no fuel gas is fed, because the growth of lithium aluminate particles is promoted in the condition same as in the operating time. |
