The invention provides (Figure 1) for the connection of an actuating cable 33 to a parking brake lever 21 after the brake has been installed. The end of the lever remote from its pivot is formed to provide a space 26 that can receive an enlargement 34 on the end of the cable 21. At the lower end of the space 26 is an inclined ramp 27 that slopes towards an extension 25 of the space 26. A guide, in the form of a helical spring 30, leads from an end of the ramp 27 to an opening in the brake casing 10. In use, the brake casing 20 is installed. The enlargement 34 is then introduced into the casing 10 until it slides up the ramp 27. When the enlargement reaches the far end of the ramp, the natural resilience of the cable 33 causes it to slide off the ramp so that the end of the cable lies in the space 25 and with the enlargement held captive by the end of the walls that define the spaces.
