Procedure for preparation of phosphate glasses nitrided for chemical resistance in welding of metals. The procedure describes a process for nitriding of phosphate glasses by heat treatment thereof in an anhydrous ammonia atmosphere. This process allows the hydrolytic resistance of these materials to be significantly increased, without any major effect on their thermal properties, such as coefficient of expansion and softening point. The characteristics of the glasses obtained turn them into good candidates for glass- metal, ceramic-metal and metal-metal welds for various alloys.
