1287755 Parachutes S L SNYDER 5 Dec 1969 [6 Feb 1969] 28584/69 Heading B7G A parachute 10, Fig. 1, having a glide-type canopy 12 from which a load 26 is suspended for controlled descent, incorporates a glide control comprising airflow deflecting means 30, mounted within the canopy 12 for downwardly deflecting airflow relative to the canopy. The deflecting means comprises two flexible panels arranged on either side of the keel line 18 and having rear control edges 36, each of which may be vertically displaced downwardly from its usual position by means of control lines 42, Fig. 2. The canopy may be provided with vent slots 44, 46, one of the edges of each vent slot being downwardly displaceable. The rear edges 36 of the means 30 may be differentially displaced to give the parachute a turning capability, and the forward edges 38 are sewn to the canopy at a selected position 40.
