Inlet valve assembly for use in combination with a sucker rod operated reciprocating subsurface pump located in the production tube of a deep well. The pump plunger incorporates a mechanical biasing mechanism for locking the inlet valve against the inlet port. The mechanism includes a cylinder carried by the pump plunger, a piston positoned within the cylinder and a biasing spring for the piston.
