Screen construction - utilising knitted fabric with periodical slits for stay supports and to close gap between sections

Partitions, covers and screens constructed with flexible flat material, are arranged to have at least three adjoining sections of material from the roll. The edges of the sections are joined leaving regularly spaced gaps for stay supports or similar. The three sections from the roll of flexible flat material may pref. be produced on a knitting machine. This may be warp knitting with Raschel facilites, in which case it can be arranged for periodical slits to be left near the edges of the material, aligned to coincide in the three sections. The posts (32) would then be pushed through the slits to hold the screen material. To reinforce the slits, the knitted material may be made from a thermo-plastic synthetic, and these can be heat set in the manner of buttonholes. Insertion of fibrillated plastic as extra warp at the region of the slits may be necessary to provide the thermo setting. This may be carried out with the three separate sections being produced at the same time on a Raschel warp knitting machine. It is also feasible to stitch buttonholes in knitted material of any form, to to cross stitch by zig-zag stitch along the adjacent edges of the cloth sections. In this case, there are regularly spaced gaps in the stitching, and on vertically suspended screens, a stay support to intertwined, or bands or cords may be dropped from the top stretcher.
