Polyester fibres are dyed by the carrier, thermosol or HT process using 1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthacene-6,11-quinone derivs. of formula (I), where R11 = Me or Et; and R12 = H or OH. USE - The process gives intense yellow to red shades with good fastness. In an example, an aq. dispersion of 2-acetyl-2,5,12-trihydroxy -7-methoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthacene- 6,11-quinone was adjusted to pH 4 with HOAc and used to dye polyester fibres at 130 deg. C for 30 mins. giving a red shade.
