A barrier packaging material (I) for infusion solns. (II) comprises a base material (2), and combinations of a polyethylene (PE) layer (3) and an ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVAC) copolymer layer (4) which are extrusion-laminated successively onto both sides of (2); (2) is a co-extruded film consisting of a layer (2a) of ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVAL) (III) between two layers (2b) of polyethylene (PE). Layer (2a) is 5-30 microns thick and (2b) is 5-60 microns thick; layer (3) IS 5-40 microns thick, and layer (4) is 50-120 microns thick and has vinyl acetate (VA) content 15-20 wt.%; pref., (2b) consists of linear LDPE. USE/ADVANTAGE - Provides a packaging material for various types of infusion solns., with excellent barrier properties (esp. w.r.t. oxygen permeability) and softness, etc.; (I) can be embossed to prevent sticking, does not require solvent for laminating, and does not give off toxic Cl-contg. gas when incinerated or become discoloured when gamma-sterilised (contrast PVC and PVDC).
