The needle matrix printer head has a number of needles located in a small area (8) at the tip of a guide section (9). Each needle has a hammer section (1a) that is operated upon by a pivoted armature plate (4). The plates are supported at the centre (25b) and are located in radial pattern around the axis of the head unit. Actuation of the armature elements is provided by electromagnetic elements (2) that have a magnetic yoke (13) that supports radially located excitation coils (3). The -pivot support of the armature is maintained by an elastic 'O' ring (23) and the return motion of the armatures is damped by an insert (11) of elastic material.
