When devotional candles are made with outer shells of PVC, their disposal creates difficulties because combustion would release HCl in the environment and burial would not decompose them because no suitable bacteria exist. It is therefore suggested to make the shell of wax with a melting point of 74-78 deg. C and to insulate it by a ring of asbestos or glass fibres from the consumable insaert with the wick. The insert is made of wax with a lower melting point of 52-56 deg. C.
