The system recovers dry and latent heat from the exhaust of a furnace, prodn. process etc. The exhaust gases are cooled and then reheated, being passed downwards through a heat-exchanger to a plenum chamber with condensate drain, from which they flow upwards via a flue to a chimney. The exchanger comprises block-type modules (10) in levels (I-III) one above the other. These have horizontal passages (12) for the media to be heated, and are connected in one or more circuits. The flue pipe (6) is at least partly double-skinned, so as to form a heating chamber (8) with inlet and outlet for a hot medium heating the cooled gas (A1) from the plenum chamber. USE/ADVANTAGE - Heat recovery system for furnace reheats exhaust gas above dewpoint, and is adaptable to differing requirements.
