The axle support beam (1) of a motor vehicle has internal passageways through which the lubricating oil or the hydraulic fluid is circulated. The external surface of the support beam is provided with fins so that the support beam functions as an oil cooler or hydraulic fluid cooler. The engine lubricating oil or the hydraulic fluid is thus cooled by the flow of air over the axle support resulting from the forward motion of the vehicle. The interior of the support beam is divided into two compartments to provide separate circuits for the oil and for the hydraulic fluid. USE/ADVANTAGE - Oil cooling in motor vehicle without the need for a separate oil cooler.
