PREPARATION OF AMINONITRILES

The present invention is a process for preparing aminoacetonitriles comprising the steps of (a) admixing glycolonitrile with an amine having at least one primary amine group to form a reaction product, (b) admixing the reaction product of Step (a) with formaldehyde and hydrocyanic acid such that each hydrogen on an amine nitrogen is replaced by and acetonitrile group. The resulting aminoacetonitrile advantageously have all amino groups fully substituted with acetonitrile groups.
