The tree guard system, for use e.g. on roads, pavements and pedestrianised areas, consists of two parallel straight concrete foundation strips, one each side of the tree roots, and reinforced concrete elements which rest on top of these to form a surround round the base of the tree trunk, leaving a rectangular space of soil round the trunk. Concrete slabs (30) are laid on either side of the surround, and these are covered subsequently with the paving material. The slabs can have holes (31) in then for the erection of an arch-shaped guard rail.
