1292761 Regulating IC engine SOC FINANCIERE ET INDUSTRIELLE DES ATELIERS ET CHANTIERS DE BRETAGNE 11 Jan 1971 [5 Feb 1970] 1180/71 Heading F1B [Also in Division G3] In a diesel engine having a separate electrically operated injector for each cylinder a controller responsive at least to the actual engine speed and a reference speed opens the injectors for as long as is necessary in each operating cycle to maintain the actual speed equal to the reference. The reference speed signal derived from a potentiometer 32 and the actual speed signal from the rectified output of an A. C. tachogenerator 33 are connected to a P.I.D. controller 29 (not described). The injectors are arranged and controlled in two groups, with a control channel a and b for each group respectively. A proximity detector 39 produces a signal when each pistion is 15 degrees before top dead centre. The signals are distributed at 37 to respective "advance-delay" devices 36a, 36b which in response to the engine speed signal determines the angle of advance at which each injector is to open. The outputs of devices 36 pass through further devices 34 and are amplified at 35 and distributed at 26 to initiate energisation of the injectors. The devices 34, in response to the output of controller 29, determine the duration of the injection energisation and hence the amount of fuel injected at each stroke. The "advance delay" devices 36 comprise analogue circuits Fig. 4 (not shown) in which constants from potentiometers are combined with the speed signal and the result compared with a ramp waveform started by the proximity detector. The output signal is produced when the comparison shows equality. Fig. 1 shows an injector. When coil 22 is energized the tappet 15 is raised against the tension in spring 16 so allowing the pressure of fuel from a common pump to raise needle 15 and uncover outlet orifice 5. The invention is used on marine or stationary diesel engines. |
