Process intended for the treatment of liquids such as highly laden industrial liquids and, in particular, ones containing fatty substances or of water, especially for swimming pools. It is characterised in that a fraction of the so-called "main" liquid is diverted to form a so-called "auxiliary" liquid, in that this auxiliary liquid is subjected to a physicochemical treatment under favourable physical conditions and in that this treatment is controlled so as to make it excessive, bearing in mind the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the said auxiliary liquid, and in that all of this auxiliary liquid treated in this manner is then mixed with the main liquid whose physical, chemical and biological characteristics justify the treatment which was excessive in the case of the auxiliary liquid alone. The physicochemical treatment may be an ionisation, a generation of chlorine in situ, a subjecting to ozone or other materials, even if dangerous or difficult to conduct because of the possible distance between the site of treatment and the site of use.

|
