A clamping device for lifeless animals, esp. fish, has two jaw halves which are spring biased towards each other to produce a reducing clamping cross-section. The jaw halves comprise V-shaped limbs, the ends of which overlap during biasing together of the jaw halves. Each V-shaped limb pref. includes an angle of 90 deg. and the facing edges of the jaw halves pref. have a low thickness. The jaw halves are pref. mounted on the shorter arms of a tongs-like device. USE/ADVANTAGE - The clamping device allows secure clamping e.g. of eels to leave both hands free for further processing, esp. gutting and skinning.
