<p>A reactor for the catalytic oxidation of NH3 for HNO3 prodn of the type where the gases, after traversing the catalyst, escape through a nest of tubes fixed to the base of the reactor surrounded by a jacket, so forming a boiler, the reactor base-plate is plane and inclined to the horizontal. This arrangement reduces side-reactions (forming N2O and N2) by regularising the transmission of radiant heat between the catalyst and the base, by preventing stagnant pockets of steam and resultant hot-spots.</p> |
