1294719 Cooling slip rings GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 8 Oct 1970 [21 Nov 1969] 47951/70 Heading H2A A dynarnoelectric machine, e.g. turbinegenerator, has disposed on, and electrically connected to connection bars 4, 5 in, a shaft portion 1, collector rings 2, each comprising at least one axially extending overhanging portion 2b whose outer surface 2d is in rubbing contact with brushes 8 and to which is attached a radially inwardly extending rotating ring 9 forming a liquid dam; a stationary ring 11, and a larger diameter stationary ring 12, respectively convey and collect liquid to and from the interior of the overhanging portion 2b. This difference in diameters provides a self-pumping action on the cooling liquid which is supplied to a rotating liquid chamber 30 via a manifold 17, axial passages 15 and inlets 13 in a stationary sleeve 10, and exits via outlets 14, sleeve pasages 16 and a manifold 18. The two rings 11, 12 each comprise two plates spaced by segments 11c, 12c spaced and oppositely curved to define spiral passages 22, 23. A similar ring 2 is disposed on the other side of the manifold assembly 3, and in a modification, Fig. 4, the hub (31a) is centrally of the collector ring (31). The brush surface 2d is helically grooved at 2c. |
