PURPOSE:To obtain the polarization multiple recording medium which has small crosstalks at the time of polarization recording and is less changed with lapse of time by recording and erasing by consisting this recording medium of a recording layer selectively oriented with dyestuffs in an uniaxial direction. CONSTITUTION:This optical recording layer consists of the recording layer selectively oriented with the dyestuffs in the uniaxial direction. The uniaxially oriented recording layer is formed by forming a dyestuff layer on an oriented film. The uniaxially oriented recording layer is formed by the rubbing treatment of the dyestuff layer. The dyestuffs are a photochromic compd. having the structure of the formula. The high-density optical recording medium which is improved in the S/N of the polarization multiple recording to allow recording of 2 bits in one recording hit and is improved in erasing performance is obtd. in this way.
