The apparatus includes an ordinary computer (10), an input/ output control device (40), a thermostat (30) and a viscometer (20). A photo detector (43) detects light signals through a glass tube, while signals for driving a vacuum pump (42) and a solenoidal valve terminal (41) are outputted an I/O control section (11) in response to the photo detector (43). A relay section (13) is driven by the output signals of the input/output control section (11) to open the valve terminal (41), while the vacuum pump (42) is driven by a switching section (SW). The vacuum power is transmitted through a buffer tube (22) to a viscosity tube (A) f the viscometer (20), and the dropping time of a test piece is detected by the photo detector (43), thereby measuring the viscosity.
