PURPOSE:To prevent the recording paper from being wastefully used by providing a sensor for operating an informing means by detecting a fact that a document exists in an information adding area of an information adding device, on the opposite side of the information adding device to a document placing base. CONSTITUTION:The device is provided with an optical sensor 38 of a light reflection type for detecting whether a document exists in the upper face part for intersecting with a recording medium 28 or not at the time when a document scanner 11 is in a home position. This sensor 38 detects a fact that the document exists in an informa tion adding area of the recording medium 28 at the time when the document whose size is larger than the document of the largest size being an image forming object is placed on a document placing base 2, and informs a state that it becomes impossible to apply information (a) to recording paper (p), based on this document detecting information. By taking such measures as changing and adjusting the placed position of the document against the document placing base 2, or contracting the document and placing it again, etc., based on this notice, it is attained correctly to apply the selected information to the recording paper (p). In such a way, waste of the recording paper (b) can also be eliminated. |
