First, row and column addresses are outputted to designate the relevant OSD (on-screen display) picture and the place for positioning the OSD picture. Then a sub-routine of "CALL OSD CH" is carried out to output channel display data, and then, a conversion is made to a multiplex channel picture. The row and column addresses for designating the OSD picture and the place for it are outputted upon receiving a request for the OSD number and the place for it. The invention displays the channel number for the OSD picture, thereby providing a convenience.
