摘要 PURPOSE:To implement quick focusing and to prevent malfunction of out of focusing with respect to a major object by dividing a high frequency component into plural blocks on a screen, extracting them, calculating a focus based on respective high frequency information and deciding the focus of the entire pattern. CONSTITUTION:An image pickup light A is photoelectric-converted into a video signal by a photoelectric conversion plane in an image pickup element 12 via a lens system 11, a filter means 14 extracts a high frequency component from the video signal to move the lens system 11 or the element 12 for implementing focusing. Then to the automatic focus image pickup device, an arithmetic means 19, in which the high frequency component is divided into plural blocks 5 on a screen and extracted and a focus is calculated based on high frequency component information corresponding to each block 5, the entire focus of the pattern is decided based on the result of calculation of each block and a control signal for focusing with respect to a major object is generated. The control signal is used to move the lens system or the element 12 to the focal position. Furthermore, a means detecting focus depth information of the lens system is provided to the image pickup device and applies the focus depth information to the means 19, which calculates the focus based on the high frequency component information.
