摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To reduce the generation of wastes by electrolyzing liquid waste of nitric acid, reacting generated NOx with NH3 using catalysts to reduce it to N2 and H2O, and discharging them. CONSTITUTION:Liquid waste of nitric acid containing radioactive substances generated from the nuclear fuel reprocessing process is led to an electrolytic cell to be electrolyzed to generate NOx, HNO3 is decomposed with the radioactive substances remained on the liquid side, and the generated NOx is reacted with NH3 using catalysts to be reduced to N2 and H2O and to be discharged. Remaining electrolyte of reduced HNO3 concentration is concentrated by distillation, a part of the concentrated electrolyte is circulated to the electrolytic cell to be electrolyzed together with the liquid waste of nitric acid, the remaining part of the concentrated electrolyte is sent to the radioactive waste processing process to be processed, and distillated water is necessarily neutralized to be discharged. Thus, since most of the waste can be converted into harmless N2 gas to be discharged into atmosphere, and dilute nitric acid generated by electrolysis can be distillated and concentrated to be electrolytically processed again, the quantity of liquid waste sent to the liquid waste processing process can be reduced below a fraction of the original liquid waste.</p>
