The double-acting advancing ram is vertically hinged on one side to the floor skid and otherwise to the face conveyor. The ram piston extending towards this engages a push rod which is housed in a holder and held in this by a horizontal shear bolt. The shear bolt safety device (24) used to join the holder (20) to the push rod (17) produced bolt failure (24) with excessive bending load on the rod connection and enalbes the holder (20) to swing up vertically relative the rod round a plug bolt (23). USE/ADVANTAGE - Deep mining, powered supports. Ram pushrod/conveyor connection remains intact e.g. for retraction on uneven floors, so adjacent rams take over pushing duty.
