Two arc-shaped rolling tracks are situated near the periphery of a driving wheel. In its initial position an intermediate wheel on a pivoted lever lies between the adjacent ends of the tracks. The intermediate wheel engages with and rolls along one or other of the tracks depending on the direction of rotation of the driving wheel. The lever is held by an electromagnetically operated pawl in its initial and final positions. Pref. the lever is in the form of a cam disc with various cam surfaces and is coupled to the drive wheel or the intermediate wheel by friction.
