A suction unit for use as manipulators or robots, for remotely sucking away activated and/or toxic materials, includes a lower section which is attached to the manipulator or robot, and which has an interchangeable collector container and at least one suction element, as well as an upper section which has at least one vacuum head and a pressurising gas system. The lower section is fixed to the upper section so that it can swivel. A coupling plate is linked to the lower section. A pneumatically operated suction flap is connected to the upper section, and the vacuum heads in the upper section are arranged with redundancy. ADVANTAGE - The suction unit is simple and reliable and the lower section can swivel.
