The vehicle is fitted with ranging beam transmitters at the corners (2) and pick-up heads to monitor the reflected signals. An on-board processor (5) computes the size of the space (P) and monitors the movement of the vehicle in and out of the space. The control circuit can be manually or automatically started when the vehicle has slowed. The parking spaces are monitored as the vehicle passes so that the space is known before reversing. The space size is monitired by angled beams. Indicators on the dashboard show the driver the size of the space and the rear- and front spacing from other vehicles when moving to and from the space.
