A mould for producing loaf food prod. comprises an elongated, hollow, tubular body member, a retaining cover closing one end of the body, and an end block closing the opposing end. An expansion and contraction compensation mechanism is located within the body member, the mechanism consisting of a plug assembly including a ratchet plunger and an end cover member that are joined together by a suitable locking arrangement, so that a biasing member such as a compression spring or coil can be interposed between the ratchet and end cover.
