A floor covering has a pile of fibres held in a layer of PVC, bitumen or similar plus an underneath layer. A substrate sheet has a surface of bosses on one side arranged in rows to form channels between them to take cables and this sheet is made of a resin-impregnated fabric or similar. The floor covering is in rolls or sheets; its top pile (10) is held in the layer (11) of latex or similar material, beneath which there is a layer of soft elastic material e.g. foam rubber bonded on. Channels (13) to take cables are formed by the bosses (16) standing up from the hard sheet (15) underneath the foam (12).
