To produce injection moulded matrices for mfg. optically readable data carriers, esp. picture and/or sound carriers, the structured layer (12) forms an etching mask with high selectivity to the base plate (11) so that recesses (14) can be etched into the base plate (11) according to the structure, in an anisotropic etching process. The recesses (14) formed in the base plate (11), at right angles to its surface, have expanding flanks (14') through the etching action. When the etching mask and structured layer (12) have been removed, the base plate (11) with the etched recesses (11) gives a negative so that, in an electroplating process, a plated layer of a hard material is formed for the reproduction of injection moulds.
