PURPOSE:To detect salmonella bacteria in high accuracy within approximately one day by culturing a specific amount of a specimen in a nutritive medium containing one or both of novobiocin and a triphenylmethane colorant and subsequently measuring the cells of the bacteria multiplied in the medium. CONSTITUTION:Salmonella bacteria are selectively multiplied in a specimen- culturing medium mixed with novobiocin and a triphenylmethane colorant and further with dulcitol as a carbon source. The specimen applied to the method is usually a food. When the food is a liquid, the food is charged as such in the nutritive medium, and when the food is a solid, the food is, if necessary, uniformly ground with a mixer, etc., and a prescribed amount of the ground food may be charged in the nutritive medium. The salmonella bacteria detected by the method are especially not restricted but are preferably the bacteria containing alanine amino peptidase. When ingredients contained in the nutritive medium hinder the measurement, the cultured products are preferably centrifuged to separate off the ingredients of the medium. |
