Suspensions are de-watered in a thickener wherein a fixed arcuate section trough holds a rotary horizontal shaft on which are mounted at regular intervals circular flat discs of filter fabric which lengthwise of the shaft define suspension chambers alternating with filtrate chambers sepd. from the trough floor by flexible sealing strips. During shaft rotation these chambers, which are divided into sectors by radial partitions, dip below the surface of suspension fed into the main casing, which it leaves via an opposite outlet under reduced pressure to accelerate the process, filtrate leaves the trough through an elongated lower outlet. The reduced pressure derives from a suction pump synchronised with the shaft's rotation position.
