Cpds. of formula (I): where Ph is phenyl; R1 is OH; R2 is (m)ethyl; or R1 and R2 are together -O; X (when R1+R2 = -O) = H, OH, cyano or carbethoxy; otherwise H, acetyl or propionyl; and their acid-addn. salts, are prepd. (when R1+R2 = -O) by reacting an X-substd. phenylpiperidylcyclohexene with an equimolar quantity of acrolein at ca 10 degrees C. When R1 = OH, the ketone is reacted with methyllithium, etc.
