PURPOSE:To set the optical image reading resolution to each slip without dead time so as to make the reading speed of an optical character reader faster by setting the image reading resolution of an image reading means based on the resolution information read by a resolution information reading means. CONSTITUTION:A scanner section 1 is provided with a character image reading section 11 composed of a line type photoelectric conversion element which optically reads characters on a slip P as image data. The section 1 is also provided with a bar code reading section 12 which optically reads the image of bar codes marked on a slip P by printing, etc., and indicating resolution information and discriminates the content of the bar codes separately from the operations of the section 11 and a scanner controlling section 13 which controls the sections 11 and 12. The section 12 reads the resolution information marked on the slip P and the section 13 sets the image reading resolution of the section 11 based on the resolution information. Therefore, each slip can be read without dead time under the optimum condition and the processing speed of this optical character reader can be increased. |
