The system breaks up cars (4) for scrap, separating the ferrous, non-ferrous and plastic components and removing most of the oil, petrol, and heavy metals. Each car is suspended from an endless conveyor (2) above an oil-collector, and transported through a series of dismantling stations. With the wheels (20) at the underside of the suspended body (19), the bonnet, boot lid, bumpers, doors, seats and some of the cladding are removed and shredded and/or separated according to materials. The body is then tilted on its lengthwise axis and the chassis (25) with wheels and differential (26), the engine (27) and gearbox (28), the battery (31) and radiator (30), and the fuel tank (29) are detached from it for similar processing. The body is finally delivered into a shredder, all metal being reduced to recycling size, the ferrous and non-ferrous particles being separated.
|
