<p>PURPOSE:To restrict expansion of an electrode, and restrict reduction of a discharge capacity and an operating voltage by charging a nickel hydroxide positive pole by more than 20% the capacity of the positive pole within 1 hour after it is immersed in alkaline solution, and then combining it with a negative pole and electrolyte for composing a battery. CONSTITUTION:Charging is performed to a nickel hydroxide positive pole including-zinc or zinc compound within 1 our after the positive pole is immersed in alkaline solution, where the charging quantity is set to be that required for zinc dissolved in alkali to be solid solution with active material electrically, that is more than 20% the capacity of the positive pole, and the nickel positive pole is then combined with a negative pole and electrolyte. By thus charging the positive pole in an early stage after it is immersed in alkali electrolyte, diffusion of zinc in alkali electrolyte can be prevented, dissolution and diffusion of zinc can be limited to occur only around the positive pole, and formation of solid solution of nickel hydroxide and zinc compound can be performed effectively by charging. Expansion of the positive pole by repeating charge/ discharge cycles can thus be restricted, and reduction of the discharge capacity and operating voltage in an initial stage of cycles can be restricted.</p> |
