PURPOSE:To provide the subject sinter containing mullite phases, glass phases and SiC particles and improved in the strength, toughness, abrasion resistance and heat resistance in a wide temperature range. CONSTITUTION:Al2O3 powder and SiO2 powder each having an average specific surface area of >=5m<2>/g, SiC powder having an average particle diameter of <=0.5mum and Na2O, Al2O3, SiO2, etc., as the raw materials of glass are ground and mixed under a wet condition, if necessary, dried by a spray drying method, granulated, molded, fired at 1500 to 1800 deg.C in vacuum, in an inert gas atmosphere or in a non-oxidative atmosphere for 1-5hr to provide a mullite-SiC composite sinter product comprising 40-85vol.% of mullite phases having particle diameters of <=8mum, 5-30vol.% of SiC particles and 10-30vol.% of glass phases and having a counter-theoretical density of >=95%. |
