PURPOSE:To attain an access to the same file with no consciousness of the difference of character codes by giving the file names to each electronic computer which uses the different character codes to a shared file. CONSTITUTION:An electronic computer (A) 1 is provided together with an electronic computer (B) 2, a local area network 3, and an auxiliary storage 5. A data base 7 stores the character codes which are used by both computers 1 and 2. A file control mechanism 8 of the computer 1 controls the generation, the deletion, and the read/write of files and also can give plural names to a file. Thus a shared file has the apparently same name for both computers 1 and 2, and an access is possible to the shared file.
