PURPOSE:To obtain a sintered black AlN having light-shielding property and excellent high-temperature strength, etc., by adding an alkaline-earth metal compound and/or a rare-earth compound and a transition metal carbide to AlN powder, forming the mixture and baking in an inert atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A sintered black aluminum nitride is produced by adding an alkaline-earth metal compound (e.g. CaO) and/or a rare-earth compound (e.g. Y2O3) and a transition metal carbide (e.g. TiC) to aluminum nitride powder, forming the mixture and baking the formed article in an inert atmosphere (e.g. nitrogen gas). The obtained sintered aluminum nitride has the high thermal conductivity of AlN as well as the black color caused by the presence of the transition metal nitride and is suitable as a base material for a printed circuit board, etc. The transition metal carbide may be substituted with a transition metal nitride and/or oxide and carbon. |
